       Respected Sir's/ Madam's,

 

Warmth regards from Association for Disabled and helpless Children, ADC Surkhet.It is now 5 years that ADC started their activities to help disabled and helpless children in the Surkhet area (West Nepal). During this period, hundreds of children and their families have benefited directly or indirectly of the services and treatments provided by the ADC Team.Of course the credit of this work goes to you and your kind support.

 

Despite the difficulties to deal with Children disability in Nepal, mainly relating to the lack of education, the poor economical conditions and the geographical environment, we, at ADC never feel hopeless and we keep enthusiastic and optimistic in our actions and goals.

 

Now we have a full time Senior Physiotherapist and, very soon, 2 new experienced workers in disability area and 1 special education teacher, we aim to expand our services to achieve the following objectives:

 

1/ Increase our in-patient service from 3 to 6 children.

 

2/ Increase our out patient service from 12 to 20 children.

 

3 / Provide better special education & vocational training to our in-patient & out-patient children.

 

 4/ within the next 12 months, (September 2016-September 2017), conduct 6 screenings camps and 2 follow-up sessions in remote areas. 

 

We will closely monitor these 4 objectives and we will regularly update our internet site to report the progress to you.(http://www.adcsurkhet.org.np/).

 

 In order to achieve these objectives and to help ADC to reach their overall goals, we need, once again, your kind and generous financial support.

 

Also,please do not hesitate to talk about us and about our actions to your friends, family and relations and to all who are willing to support ADC.Then ADC will continue treating, training and helping disabled Children to self-stand, to walk and to give them and their parents a new and better life.

Story of Amrit

This is the story of Amrit chunara,six and half years old son of Mrs. Gauri Chunara and Mr. Karna Chunara from Shanushriri , Tara Tal,ward no.9,Bardiya. It take 4 hours by bus and 1 hour by walking to rich at home of Amrit in Bardiya from ADC Center. 

Amrit, having Physical Therapy by Physiotherapist.

 Amrit is unable to walk normaly and bends his leg on walking and walk on toes.When Amrit was one year old,Gauri found that her son can’t walk

    although he can do other activities like other children.

His parents took him to Gujrat in Kashiben hospital . There he was recommended for physiotherapy.Physiotherapy treatment lasts as long as they stay there . Later they forgot all the exercises taught to them when they were back to home.When Amrit was six year old, a neighbour told them about INF in surkhet. First family doesn’t agree to go far from their house but later the effort of her mother brought to INF and thereby he was referred to ADC (Association for Disabled and helpless Children).

 She brought him 26th baikash 2073 and Today17 th of shrawan , in two and half month duration we can see vast progress. Now Amrit can sit cross leg squat and stand for long . His leg is more straighter than before. Before coming here in ADC he needed support to sit ,could stand for less time and his both legs were fully bent.Now his progress going on.We , ADC family doing our best for the welfare of this child.

I Want Continue My Study : Khimsara B. C.

It was running final  exam of educational year 2072 in Shree Krishna Sanskrit & General Higher Secondary School. A lady bland teacher Miss Tara Dhakal asked to ADC Manager; "Gyanendra Can you help 2000 braille paper for our poor and talented blind  student ?" then ADC manager reply " yes, of course "

Carrying 2000 braille paper manager went to the school for provide papers to blind students.At that moment manger saw a small girl student participating final exam of class 4, she was writing in paper, sitting on ground of class room.After knew,She is with mild cerebral palsy.

Manager asked about her to her teacher and in-charge of the school and request to take her in ADC's center for physical therapy.

After a month she came in ADC with her father. Her father said about her in detail, then we knew they are in a big problem.

Khimsara is from Awalching VDC of Surkhet District. It take 2 hours by bus and 1 hour by walking to reach at her home in Awalching from Surkhet Vally. She live near the school in Vally with her brother's room of rent.But now her brother and brother in law sifted from the Vally.After then she has no room to stay and nobody to take care her. Financial condition and family situation vary bad in her home. Her father married two.So the problem is created.  

She has passed the exam in good marks. But now she is in her village ; Awalching. She is not admitted in School. And here, educational year 2073 is running. Her father asked for help with  many NGO, INGO, and government offices to continue her study, but nobody can help them. 

Finally ADC manager call them in center, when they are seeking help in surkhet vally. With the sad face they came to center, and all of sudden a innocent child tell to manager " uncle i want to continue my study... please help me." Then ADC manager  promised them that ADC will adopt her in September 2016. She will stay in ADC hostel and continue her farther education and regular physical treatment.

She need regular physiotherapy.

In this days ADC have a Senior Physiotherapist working as a full timer staff.Last month ADC recruit and welcomed to Therapist in Center. Now days clients are increasing. More clients from surkhet valley and far from the Vally : Dailekh, Bardiya, Kalikot, Jajarkot & Jumla Districts,  use to come ADC's center to have counseling and physical treatment.

Celebration on international disability day

     

         Background

People with disability constitute 1.94% of the total population in Nepal; out of it 36% belongs to the group of physical disability. People with disabilities represent the large physiotherapy service user group.

Nepal has already signed and ratified the United Nation convention on the right of person with disability (UNCRPD). UNCRPD in context to Nepal is a consensus made by Nepal government with the other countries in World to assure the rights, benefits and fundamental freedom of person with disability.

Though Nepal has signed and ratified UNCRPD, still the rehabilitation, habitations and assertive device services have not been integrated in country’s health system.

ADC : On the Progressive Way

Children with disability are more subjected to the discrimination and social exclusion.
 They need the special attention, extra support and services in comparison to the children who are not disable. In country like, Nepal where the incidence of poverty is 25.2 % according to the report made by World Bank in 2010. Poverty or not affordability of the services is one of the major contributing factors behind the occurrence of the disability and in other turn disability also contributes on creating the poverty in family, community and whole nation. Therefore, poverty is called as the cause and consequence of disability. Similarly, absence of and inaccessible services is also a contributing factor of increasing burden of disability.

Parents Said See You Soon

I was sitting on my desk doing some paper work suddenly sound ring my ear “ namaste sir” means good afternoon sir.

 I turned around and saw one lady carrying  child on her back and other old man carrying bag on his back with full of sweat. They seems like so tired, and told  “what time is it now”?? i replied its nearly four noon.

 I saw amzing face what !! “ its four”?? They start their journey at five o’clock in the morning. They told me we have to walk three hours and seven to eight hours by bus.

  I told them you have to stay here nearly two to three weeks, then they were surprised my voice what !!! two to three weeks???. They believe only injections and medications .

In this time ADC have three inpatient & four to seven outpatients in our Center. Inpatient use to be from remote & marginalized, outpatients are from in the Surkhet Vally.Generally our Children from Dailekh & Kalikot. We are providing fee- less services (treatment, lodging & fooding) for our children with one carriers. We have normal guest rooms and kitchen. But our clients are happy adjusting our facilities. We are feeling, our clients are understanding the importance of physiotherapy for there children.

Home Visit & Follow Up By ADC Manager

Its hard to continue work as a social work at the village level of Nepal. Seriously lots of hope and work should be done by ourself to rise and fullfill the dream of the ADC as a good and service oriented organoization at surkhet.

I never thought that it is hard for me to go remote area of Nepal and work with physically challenged childrens and make them independent in their life as much as possible.But in reality now i came to know that it is possible because i went remote area of nepal who already get rehabilitation services from our center.

I went one village it will take five hours by public bus and three hours by foot and visit my old clients there i saw them they and their families have shiny face with lots of welcome to me, seven months before when i am there i feel that they havent any hope from their childrens and they are burden for them forever.

ADC Story Of Kamala Bohara

MY CHILD CAN’T SUCKS SALIVA BUT NOW SHE CAN SIT.

Ten years old my child (Kamala Bohera) never knows how to suck saliva herself. We are so much hurry about her condition and her further life, sometimes we thought thet if she is died then it is good for us and lots of people told us that we did mistake in previous life so we got that child. So we are so frustated about her life and thought that if anybody took her then my all problems will run out

One of my relatives told me about ADC Surkhet they are providing treatment for childrens like my doughter so i run there. They are agree to take my children their organisation for treatment as well food and accomodation for three weeks.

Physical therapist provide regular two seassions per day treatments and other creational activities. Now my childrens haven’t throw saliva any more and start to sit on the floor. Now my children try to stand with support.

ACD staff work lots with my children and teach me remaning home exercises and they promised me when target will meet then again they will invite me and my children at ADC for further treatment.

I have no words to give pleasure to the ADC so very much thank you for ADC and all staffs.
